Hi...I need some expert help. I am in a park on Rt56 in Kansas, and my water heater will not light with either gas or electric. It was okay with ac yesterday, but I had not used the gas for a while. There is not clicking when the system switch is put to theon position, and there is no pilot light indication on the inside control. What can I do myself to fix this. Thanks. Len

Len, there is 12 volt and 120 volt supply to the water heater in the front of water heater there is a diode in clear plastic tube and in the back of the water heater there is a thermal reset. Check to make sure you have power at the front of the heater 12 volt dc and check your breakers to be sure they have not tripped. Check the connections on the circuit board they are in some areas that can cause corrosion and the diode as well. You may be uncomfortable with electrical troubleshooting if that is the case you will need help from some one or a mobile rv tech. Also the water heater is the first load shed if you are running both ac units or compressors on a 30 amp connection and the light will be out on your EMS panel no power and I do not know if it would run on propane. The diode will fail if over heated and shut down the water heater completely you should always carry a spare.

Thanks Ken...I am at a total loss when it comes to electricity. I checked all the connections and fuses that I could find. What does the diode look like if it is bad.Does it break like a fuse. Oh, one more thing. The gas did work for a really short time this morning. Len

The diode is in a clear plastic tube in the front of the water heater usually just below the relief valve and is silver with automotive connectors on each end you can buy a spare at almost any RV parts department or Camping World. Check to make sure the burner tube is clear of debris or insects and cycle the water heater on and off a couple of times the propane may still have air in the line good luck.

The thermal fuse that looks like a diode is easy to check - unplug it and check for zero resistance.
The Atwood manual says the first thing to do when you have intermittent operation is to unplug and plug the connectors a few times.

If you end up having to replace the circuit board do a google on "Dinosaur boards". They make replacements that are considerably cheaper than the factory boards and and have a good reputation for reliability.

You can download an Atwood service manual here http://www.bryantrv.com/docs2/docs/a...aterheater.pdf
