Help with a new purchase

Hello

It's my first post so here goes.

I currently own a 2002 Monaco Knight 34 ft but find I need more room
to accomodate a mother inlaw & wife's brother.

I'm looking at a 2004 Journey 39 ft.
Any things to look out for or suggestioons would be appreciated.
I imagine Winnebago could give me any recall info

I don't expect that you will have very much of a learning curve. Take you time and go through things at your own pace. You can do this.

I went from a 36' Knight to a 39' Journey. I can't believe how much better the Journey drives and rides.

Welcome to the forum.

You can find the brochure here. It sounds like you're looking at the 39W model. The brochure mentions that they come with either a Cat or Cummins engine. We had the Cat in our previous motorhome and it was kind of temperamental starting when it was cold out. We have a Cummins in our current motorhome and it starts easily on the coldest days. I don't know if that's a common trait.

Please do all your homework! I have a 2009 Winne Adv and it has been problem after problem. The day we picked it up we had a leak and the drivers side mirror did not work and its been in the shop for a total of 9 months. The last trip to the shop was 3 months ago and it is still there.

Welcome to iRV2. This is not meant to complicate your life, but consider some out of the box thinking. A floor plan with bunk beds or a toy hauler floor plan might be a good choice. The bunk beds provide sleeping without breaking down the living area furniture. The toy hauler floor plans offer a large area in the rear of the coach that with a bit of thought one could convert to a separate apartment.

Newmar made a coach called the AllStar. It had both the above mentioned features. In addition the AllStar was a mid engine diesel. I've heard nothing but rave reviews from those that own them. Try Googling Newmar AllStar and you should get enough hits to start you thinking.

Winnebago made two 39 models in 2004... 39W and 39K ... the 39W has two slides ... the 39K has three slides ...

We own a 39W ... we have travelled 82,000 miles in it ... we have the CAT engine ...

We have had absolutely no problem starting our motorhome in cold weather ... even below zero ... I do use the block heater when the temps are below freezing ...

X2... Why not get a small travel trailer and tow it for the relatives. No motorhome is big enough for both a mother in law and a brother in law...

Buy them a computor with a camera, hook up a camera to yours and watch them on the screen 4 adults in a motorhome for more than one night is claustrophobic, NEVER FOR AN EXTENDED STAY!
