Hi Bill,

Thanks for the head's up. I'm on/have been on several forums over the years and I've never heard of such a blanket policy being in force.

There was a situation several months ago with one person on a RC airplane forum where he would take various positions that were ultimately discounted by the community. I suppose he didn't like being wrong and he would edit his posts and change his position. Initially it caused some confusion, but the members quickly saw through his peculiarities and discounted him.

That was a clear situation of moderation required for one individual and not the entire community.

Groupee BBS (iRV2) is not as feature-rich as some others. Others will have a timestamp *and* reason for editing after the posting. This particular issue would be a non-event with other BBS software.

I agree with you - if this is a problem, deal with it on a case-by-case basis and not the community as a whole.

My $0.02

Nobody here can convince me that this is such a rampid problem that this type of enforcement is needed. Between the Winne forum here and RV.net, I probably follow and scan more threads than any of the mods here (3-5hrs/day) and have rarely (like maybe twice) seen someone "ruin" a thread through editing, although I do see many go back and update their posts, as do I.

I'm sure the mods could care less but personally this is an insult and I'll be spending way less time here. They are MY posts and comments and I'm not gonna ask the teacher for an eraser.

I have posted 2 PM's to the powers that be. The first wasn't answered and I just sent the second. I was unaware that there was a "lock down" in affect until reading this. On other forums that I frequent, you are allowed to edit your post at any time, but you cannot delete it after someone has replied to it using a quote. i posted a topic and almost immediately attempted to edit it and was denied. No 15 minute grace period was evident there. Perhaps it has changed in the last week?

Personally, I have edited several of my postings. Often, I need this ability to edit, hoping to clarify to the best of my ability. On othr hande, Misteaks happin. However, I believe that if I take more time and review before I hit the "Post Now" button, there should not be a need to edit a posting.

Dummy me, how do you edit a post? I thought I had seen some forums where there was an "edit" option at the top of the posting but now I don't know as I'm not seeing that anymore.

I think the genesis of this entire event was caused by one poster. Like many things in life, one person can cause problems for the majority. Obviously the moderators thought the best solution was to change the edit scenario - perhaps there are more issues involved that I'm not aware of.

On John's reply: "a solution looking for a problem"

If there are some posters who are causing a problem, (hopefully not knowing it), then the moderators should send them a PRIVATE message and inform them of such a problem, as well as how to fix it. It seems to me that the users of this forum are those who honestly seek and need help. (I wish there was such a forum for my Jeep GC) Anything that will help them clearly express their needs should be allowed, and that obviously includes the ability to edit and restate anything they may have mis-stated in a previous posting.

We do not want people to leave. But iRV2 was the ONLY forum I visited that would allow continuous editing of a post. All of the others use a 15 to 30 minute time out which works very well. It does give you time to review your post and edit any errors.

As already explained, one problem of allowing editing for hours and days later, the original poster can go back and change the original post or intent of the post and render the rest of the thread useless.

If you have a problem that has to be corrected, please send a PM to one of the moderators or administrators. We are pleased to work with you on any issues.

Ken
