I recently purchased a 2000 Journey 36L and we have been very impressed with its performance compared with our last MH, a 87 chiefton 22. I have ran across some posts on various forums indicating that the 5.9 275 hp cummins like mine are under powered, that certianly doesn't seem to be the case to us, we live in a very mountianous area and have had no difficulty getting up any hills around here. Our unit has the allison four speed, it downshifts at about 50mph going uphill, so I downshift to 3rd and am able to maintain my desired speed of 60mph without difficulty. We will soon be adding a toad, I guess we will find out how well it pulls then.

Mopargo,

My previous MH was a 1997 (not Winnebago) on a Freightliner chasis, 230 HP 5.9 Cummins and a 6 speed Allison. I always had enough power in the Mtns of Wyoming. It downshifted when necessary and up we went.

Donavin, yeah I think the 6 speed would have been an improvement, it would have eliminated the need to manually shift.
