hot & cold reversed

We just bought a new Voyage. I discovered that the single handle shower control was plummed reversed. Brutal experience on a cold morning waiing for the hot water. However, now I wonder if we should have the dealer correct. The first thing we want out is hot water and when you turn it off you cycle through the hot portion lastly, meaning no cold has seeped into the mixing chamber to blast you after soaping down. No big deal but interesting thought. Does this make a sense?

You should definitely have it corrected. It could be dangerous to someone who doesnt know its backwards and they could get scalded.

Just curious, I know hot should be left and cold right, but are there also markings for hot and cold on the handle? At least that way if you get a really ignorant (or worse) service guy you can prove it....

This might be tough to explain, but depending on the type of faucet, you may simply be able remove the handle, turn the knob 180 degrees and reinstall the handle.

Now that sounded confusing.

Anyway, when I built our house, I installed all delta posi-temp valves. The valve has a single knob that turns just under half a turn. It starts cold, then the farther you turn it, the hotter it gets. When I replaced the shower valve in the motorhome, I installed the same valve since we like it, and know how to use it. Got it all plumbed up, and wouldn't you know it....reversed hot and cold. Well, it turns out, when I installed it, I had turned the shaft, so then I installed the handle 180 out of phase. On those type of valves, the shaft can rotate continuously, but the actual stop for rotation is in the knob.

Try removing the knob from your shower, and grabbing the shaft with your fingers or a pair of pliers. Turn the shaft, and you'll see the water turns on, then once the shaft is turned a half revolution, the water will turn off again. If you install the knob at that point I think you find the cold water coming on first.

If this doesn't work, you've got a different type of knob, and just ignore my ramblings...

Not sure if its a Moen, but if it is there is a simple procedure to reverse it. You take the handle off & turn the cartridge 180 Degreed & put back together.

It is a Moen single handle fawcet. Yes, their are markings on the plate C - H on left. Sounds like the dealer's tech won't have to mess with the pipes below or on the mixer. I was a little skeptical of changing fittings etc. THANKS one and all for sharing your knowledge, I now feel better about having it fixed.

My '03 Ultimate was the same ... hot & cold reversed in the shower. Dealer corrected it easily under warranty.
