Hot water tank repair

This is just for info and there is probably lots that already know about these fittings. While away last winter my water line started dripping at the cold inlet to the water tank on my journey 36. It is not very easy to get at so I gooped it enough to get me thru using only the water pump pressure. I took the complete heater out to repair ( get off the goop and find out what the problem was. I ended up repairing with sharkbite fittings, 90's into tank, check valve. The clear hose that is already in the motorhome fits into the fittings so you just push it together and there is a little C clip if you need to take them apart. Will make it easier if I ever have to get in there thru the access hole. It also works on copper. Check it out for those who haven't used it.

I've used shark-bite fittings before. They essentially allow you to mix and match different plumbing materials. I've used them to connect plastic pipe to copper pipe in order to use higher quality fittings in our RV. Good suggestion.

Ditto on the Sharkbite stuff. I used one to fix my showerhead. I have access to two different crimp systems for PEX, but neither would have worked in the little hole in the wall. Sharkbite fitting was about double the cost, but I needed one fitting, and it was almost zero effort, worth the extra money.

I rolled the tank out to discover a cracked fitting. I guess you can only go a 1/4 turn so many times. Replaced it with similar fitting. Will check out those sharkbite chinkadaroes if it start dripping again.

Sharkbite fittings??? Excuse my ignorance, but I have never heard of them. Do they come in different sizes, and where does one find them. I haven't noticed one my legs being longer than the other ----yet.

I haven't used Sharkbite fittings either, but have heard very good things about them. I'll be looking for them at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Check 'em out at www.sharkbite.com/

AF CHAP: Thanks for the link. Very interesting, will try it out, for a novice plumber it looks like a winner.
