I have two Interstate SRM-24 550 CCA 690 MCA SPR house batteries in my 2005 Winnebago Sightseer 29R. When I plug the motohome into shore power one of the two house batteries gets very hot. This evening I checked battery temperatures and I found the hot battery to be 160 degrees F. while the cool battery was 80 degrees F. I checked the fluid levels and the battery is not low.

Am I wrong in assuming I have a problem with one of my batteries?

JD,

URGENT URGENT

You need to immediately remove these batteries from charge. You most probably have a shorted battery and it can reach dangerous conditions that can cause explosive results.

Replace both batteries and have the charging systems checked out before any further charging.

Contact me is you need additional informtion.

IMMEDIATELY GET THESE BATTERIES OFF CHARGE.

They are off of the charger as I have unpluged shore power. I'll call the dealer tomorrow and discuss this with them.

I had a very similar issue with my coach also. It basically turned out that one of the coach batteries was shorted and the dealer ended up replacing both batteries. I have checked the charge voltage and it is 13.7 volts but if I understand the charger correctly it should trickle charge when battery is full but Winnebago told me to use the disconnect switch when I was not using the coach so the batteries would not overcharge. What does everyone else do with charging when coach is parked waiting for the next trip?
