House Power Failed to Disconnect
Good afternoon all:
Maybe others can profit from my recent experience.
Upon return from a three day fishing trip to the Florida Gulf coast and unloading and parking the rig, as is my custom, I turned off the battery power from both the chassis and house batteries. For some reason, an overhead light was on and it did not turn off when the house disconnect switch was turned off but simply dimmed. After rechecking, the house power continued to stay on but at slightly a reduced voltage. My thought was that the on/off relay was sticking on. I located the relay (front center on the Journey), disconnected the negative battery cables (2), but still had 12.4 volts at the relay input terminal. I decided the Trik-L-Start might be feeding the terminal and removed its connection. Now the power was gone and, being mentally locked in on the relay, I removed the relay. It looked good and I tested it as best as I could and nothing seemed to be wrong with it. Then I had an "Ah Ha" moment that should have hit me earlier. Everything now pointed to a failure of the Trik-L-Start, feeding backward from the chassis power connection to the house battery cable. I removed the TLS and it tested continuity (low ohms) in both directions, or bad.
With the TLS removed and the relay reinstalled, the disconnect switch works properly. Now I'm waiting for a replacement TLS from RV UpGrades - it's on back order.
If you have similar problems, check for any possible connection between the coach and chassis battery banks, as in a failed Trik-L-Start.
