How to disable dash air conditionning

Hi,

I have a 05 Itasca Suncruiser on an 05 W22 chassis

I have had to remove the refrigerant from my dash air and have had to disconnect/replace a number of the hoses due to having to replace the condenser/Engine oil cooler (leaking)/tranny fluid cooler assembly. Due to corrosion/galling all of the fittings are seized to the aluminum tubing - heat, freezing, tapping and every kind of penetrating fluid I can find will not loosen them.

I live in NS and there is no one in Atlantic Canada who services WH and Winnies. I have not been able to find anyone to manufacture the a/c lines due to unavailability of fittings. The new lines I have been able to purchase are costing me a fortune for shipping from the US

I will be heading to Mission TX this fall and will sort this mess out while in the US. So I want to disable the dash air.

a. Will disconnecting the lead to the dryer/filter canister on the front passenger side of the condenser disable the a/c? If not, is there a way to disable it above and beyond not turning the dash air switch on?

b. Will the compressor be damaged if it is spun with the a/c disabled and without the refrigerant/oil mix?

Thanks for your help

Preston

Disable AC

If there is no or even low freon in your AC system the compressor will not turn, as there is a pressure switch in the system. You will see the clutch assembly turning, but the compressor shaft is not turning.

I agree with I was south. to make absolutely sure the compressor won't engage you can disconnect the plug from the clutch magnetic coil.

Here's a link to a generic workhorse clutch.

If it not used for any other thing, remove the belt.

That lead goes to a pressure switch which opens if there is low gas in the system - so by disconnecting the switch you have made doubly sure because the compressor cannot now be energised

prsmith,
you can remove the whole Ac compressor and install a bracket and pulley in its place, dorman pn 34174 about $35? use the standard 108" serpentine belt.
you can use your Genny and coach Ac while driving.
check the archives of this forum using the search function for more info.
