LOML and I have been having hydraulic issues with our new (to us) 2004 Winnebago 33v with 2 slides. The HWH system wouldn't lower levelers OR extend slides.

I looked all over the forums here and saw mention of the Shuttle Valve in more than one conversation but today I found a FAST, EASY way to check this out and at least get slides working.

After making a visit to my closest friendly HWH "authorized" shop and being told "you need a new pump", I decided to go through the HWH Trouble Shooting Manual one more time. In conjunction with this, I placed a call to HWH Tech Support and "got in line" to talk to the gurus. Frank called today and I told him the symptoms: Levelers either S-L-O-W to descend or not at all, 2 slides not extending at all. I told him where I was in the trouble shooting process, and he agreed with the Shuttle Valve. "Do you know where the pump is?" he asked. I said yes and that I did have the 9/16" wrench he requested. Using this wrench, Frank had me disconnect the end of the "U" shaped tube that runs from the manifold to the "Shuttle Valve" and just leave the other end attached to the "Shuttle Valve". Now here's the brilliant part: Go to the closest Jack... Most levelers have a TEE fitting at the top with the hydraulic line IN and a cap on the OUT side. Take off the cap that covers this other half of the TEE fitting at the top of the levelers (NOTE: I had to use a cheater to finally "break" the cap loose - make sure you're turning counter-clockwise). This cap may then be used to cover the elbow that was exposed in the first step. This cut the flow of fluid to the levelers but enabled the slides 100% of the time Finally, Frank had me cover the leveler's TEE fitting I "borrowed" the cap from in the first step with some duct tape to keep dust out..

We have a new shuttle valve on order and and it should be here right after we get back from our very first outing this weekend

Everyone owes you a big thank you for sharing this info. With this knowlege I could avoided manually retractiing slides. Now I just have to find a good place to save this information for future use.

I agree with Paul, Thanks loads for sharing your find.

Paul I have a set of three ring binders filled with this type of information and organized in Categories that I keep in the MH, along with lots of owners manuals of items in the rig that I did not get when I bought it used.

Markecolo – could you please rephrase how you bypassed the “shuttle valve” maybe in a 1,2,3, step method for brain challenged folks like myself. I think I understand 90% of the process you describe but am just a bit uncertain which lines/outlets are getting capped when. I replaced our “shuttle valve” once which should be my limit and I don’t carry a spare. That said, a failed “shuttle valve has spoiled a trip once and I would like to thoroughly document the procedure you used to bypass it in order to operate the slides.
Thanks a bunch.

I'd be happy to... We'll be back to the "sticks and bricks" today and I'll even add some pics in the next few days.

I went through the exact same procedure with the Shuttle Valve you described, except the front jacks do not have the "T" and the "T" on the rear jacks are impossible to reach to remove the cap. I ended up driving 20 miles into the nearest town and bought a 1/4" brass cap at the hardware store to cap off the position where the U shaped line was removed. Solved my problem until HWH sent me a new Valve to the next CG I was headed for. Now I keep that 1/4" cap in with my leveler information in case it's needed again.
