Were looking at an Itasca Sunrise 1992, Winnebago Brave 1993, Itasca Sunrise 1993, Suncruiser 1997 and Suncruiser 1998.

Is there anything specific to these units and model years that I should check on? I've read the how to buy a used RV posts so am really looking for advice from current long term owners if there is a trend of failure or problems for a particular model/year.

When were getting to this age does it really matter that one is a few years younger than another? Or is it best to go with current condition and upkeep?

The 1997 needs a new paint job. How much does this generally run?

The Sunrise 1993 could really benefit from a domed shower. Can this be installed after market without ruining the roof integrity? Right now it is only 6 ft tall and has a fabric roof.

Some have hydraulic jacks for self leveling. I think this is really great. What sort of prices should I expect after market to install these? 2 dealers told me $4K. Are the original systems better than the after market solutions? Are either of them more trouble free?

Thanks!
Michelle

Michelle, My I would have to say that your question is the "Most Ambitious Question of the Week!"

Where do you start would be my question is all of this. The most critical part of any of these vehicles is what's under the floor. How do they run? Are there any issues in handling the vehicle? Look at the tires, most likely they are pretty weathered at this point. Look at other obvious things like the engine. Have them pull the cover, start the engine and listen for weird engine noises. Are there any major leaks? Does the vehicle shift smoothly?

In any sense of the word this would be a all-day research project even under the best circumstances.

Once you have established that the vehicle runs well that will allow you to move into the amenities of the coach. Check out the most expensive things first. Generator comes to mind, does it run and does it provide power to the coach?

DriVer's given you some good advice! Drive train and chassis issues are generally more expensive to fix and need to be taken to a qualified technician, than coach issues, many of which you may be able to fix or update yourself. Good Luck in your search and enjoy what you end up with!

Does anyone know the mpg that a 1997 Suncruiser gets? Were looking at a 34 ft model (which really is to big for me but that is my first contender right now).

Thanks!
Michelle

We've realized the 34ft is just too big for us for the type of touring we want to do. Back to the drawing board.
