Jensen Dash Radio replacement confusion

Our dash radio was among some things that took the hit from a lightening strike (the surge protector saved the 110v).

The radio is a Jensen VR1828WIN and is apparently not only out of production but there is absolutely nothing else comparable with CD, AM/FM, satellite and weather band. It's tall, too.

Any suggestions on where and how to find a VR1828WIN? All the usual suggestions from Winnebago itself through Litchsenn to Jensen have failed.

I have the VR182 in my MH. It is storage but I can get the Faceplate measurements tomorrow if it will help.

Great lead, but it went dead when the b2Loud folks that have the radio in stock on their website report the web listing is old and the radio out of stock.

Still can not find one or even a substitute of the same size and apparently the new Jensen radios for Winnebago are even larger.

This thread is really gettting interesting so let me add some information that might be even more confusing for some. Today after looking at Mickey's dimensions I call Winnie to see what they recommend to replace the Magadyne. "I would recommend you replace it with the newer Magadyne" When I mentioned the Magadyne is junk in IMHO are there any other choices that would fit into the courrent opening? He was not aware of any, other than using a standard car radio and using the filler piece with it. I went to the search threads and I see some have done just that.....used the filler piece. Does anyone here have a better solution? I would really like to find a radio that fills the existing opening without using the filler. Thanks

Exactly what I have been learning . . . the current option proposed by the shop doing the lightening repair work is a smaller 2-inch-tall radio with a filler and without any weather band feature. If I can't find a Jensen that fits the old-sized hole, this may become the only option . . . and this is a year-old 2009 Winnebago.

The radio in my MH seems to have the same features. Maybe this will help. Mine is the VR185.

These people list it and there is a picture:

Jensen VR185 AM/FM/Cassette/CD/WB SIRIUS Satellite Ready Stereo, Fully suspended automotive grade CD mechanism, 1.8 DIN chassis size (Ford OEM Mount), 160 Watts (4 x 40 output power), Electronics AM/FM/WB tuner, 7-channel NOAA Weatherband tuner, SIRI

I bought the remote which you might not find anymore.

You can still get the Sirius radio add on:

I had to replace the Magnadyne radio in our Adventurer and after an extensive search I had to use a standard size radio with a filler piece. The Magnadyne was 1.5 din in size, which is obsolete and I considered installing a 2 din radio, but it would have required extensive dash modifications. I installed a Kenwood satellite radio with Bluetooth and other rather nice features and I am completely satisfied with the change from Magnadyne.

Hey guys, sorry to be stupid here but what is a din? Do you mean dimensions and the 1.5 is the height of the facia? My Magadyne facia measures 7 1/4 X 3 1/8 so will this 1.5 din fill the hole and fit right in?
Thanks

DIN in English stands for the German Standards Institute. The DIN is an organization that establishes standards for many of the auto accessories you have. Single DIN refers to a standard radio size. Double DIN refers to a radio twice the height of standard. 1.5 stands for...you get the idea.

I represent ASA Electronics, the producer of the JENSEN brand of televisions, stereos, and speakers and the Voyager brand of observation monitors and cameras. At ASA, we strive to provide excellent customer service and product satisfaction and would like to offer some assistance in this matter.

The JENSEN VR18-series radios (including the VR182BKWIN, VR182SVWIN) are what are commonly referred to as a 1.8 DIN radio chassis. As the vehicle chassis & dash manufacturers have moved to the larger 2.0 DIN (or double-DIN) radios, the 1.8 DIN radios have been discontinued and are no longer available.

For radio replacement, the options are to replace with the larger 2.0 DIN radio (if your dash will accommodate this) or a 1.0 DIN radio with a filler-panel (commonly referred to as a dash kit). To replace your VR182BKWIN or VR182SVWIN with a 2.0 DIN radio, the dash opening would need to be enlarged by 0.69" in height. The width and depth are not changed. Consult your RV dealer or auto sound installation center for assistance in modifying your dash radio opening.

If your dash can be modified in this manner, our JENSEN JRV210B is our current model that supports AM/FM/CD/USB and NOAA Weather Band with S.A.M.E. technology. This model also is SIRIUS and iPod Ready.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance.
