Journey Grill

While washing the coach a crossbar on the lower engine grill fell off. We were lucky it came of then rather than while on the road. This is the lower, non-opening, grill on the rear of the coach.

It appears that during manufacture a poor weld was used. It looks like a 'cold solder' if you are familiar with the term.

Is this repairable or do I need to replace the whole grill? The coach is six years old so out of warranty.

I had one of mine come loose a couple of years ago. I tried JB Weld but it did not hold. So, I had a local sheet metal shop that can weld alum do the repair and it has held up fine.

Thanks. Any issues getting it repainted to match?

No issues. I got some matching paint from the local Dupont auto finishes shop and used a touch-up gun to re-paint the entire grill. It came out very nice. I used Dupont Centari which is easy to use and matches the factory paint well. Since then, I have had the entire coach painted (mine was not full body paint from the factory) and the grill was painted again to match the new color.

My first step will be finding a welder and then a source for the correct paint. A good body shop would be able to take it from there. Getting the grill off does not look to be a problem so I can just take the grill in.

Thanks for the advice.

Any good body shop can match the paint if you have the paint codes (from Winnebago). Or, you can take the grill to any Finishmaster (or similar) supplier of automotive finishes and they will mix up a perfect match.
