Journey/Horizon weights?

Just weighed our 36' Journey DL. I'm trying to find out just what tire pressure to run. I was rather surprised that the front weight varied by almost 1,000 lb side to side. Coach had: 1/4 tank fuel, 210 lb driver, 3/4 full water tank, typical load of gear onboard.

Here are the weights we found:
  • Left front: 4400
  • Right front: 3480
  • Left rear: 7780
  • Right rear: 7960
Gross weight: 23,620

Anyone else weigh their Journey/Horizon 36?

I thought you were getting some good advice on your other thread.

Move some load from the heavy side to the lite side(?).

I thought it might be nice to know real weights from other actual Journey owners, if you're ok with that.

My last weighed was rr 8050 lr8000 rf3500 lf3750 try to keep it lite. Better mpg.

Automobilist, Here's what mine weighed loaded about the same as yours with no driver seated.

Left Front: 4300
Right Front: 4200
Left Rear: 8400
Right Rear: 8000

Total Weight: 24,900

I'm wondering why my left front weighs almost 1000 lb more than the right front? Nothing really in the basement compartments. And no, I don't weigh 900 lb...

Do you trust the person who weighed your coach? Mistakes can and are made. Maybe the person who weighed it wrote down the wrong number for the right front.

When I subtract your right front from your left and then subtract your 210lbs I get 710 lbs. Assuming you have an 8000 lb front axle, that's a little shy of 9% difference 'tween left and right.

I just got off the phone with Freightliner hoping to find out if there was a % tolerance between left and right on an axle, and unfortunately there there doesn't appear to be one. I was hoping they would say something like "If you are within "X"% of the total axle rating, then you are OK". So I guess we all try and balance left to right up until we run out of money or lose interest.

That being said, some thoughts follow:

Did you weight each "corner" on the same scale (ya know - 1 corner at a time at a grain elevator or such) or where there 4 individual scales like State Police use? If four individual scales, then there is the possibility of a scale that was out of calibration, but you said the total weighing equalled the 4 so that probably ain't it.

I recently talked to a fellow RV'er who experienced similar problems and it turned out to be the ride-height adjustments on his air suspension. Once he had them adjusted to specs his "balance" was more reasonable. If feasible, both access and cost, I would weight again before doing anything else.

I weighed my 2009 Journey 34Y on a Co-Op scale last week (weighed each corner on a grain elevator scale) I had about 76 gal of diesel on board, with full water, empty black and gray tanks, full propane and all tires at prescribed pressures (that morning when cold).

LF 4160
RF 3860 (300lb difference, take me out of the picture (230lb) and it's down to 70lb diff.)
LR 8820
RR 8820 (Yea, I know, what are the odds!)

This doesn't help you, but after having this rolling motel room for over a year, I was pleasantly surprised to discover I had "accidentally" loaded this thing correctly. But like you, if my front axle had been off by a significant amount there isn't a whole lot I could have moved from one side to another to change the weight.
