Journey new dash cover

Well for a while this has been on my list new covering for the dash.

Looked at carpet had seen another post doing or other options.

Well i finally landed at doing it with boat vinyl like seats in a boat.

Took about 2.5 hours removing all the trim

Here is the picture i will write up the instructions on how i did it on our website.

Hey Blaine,
That does look real nice. I might have to look into doing the same thing. We've looked up some of the dash mat folks and, if I recall, they hover around the $219.00 or so price tag. But, that looks like a real good compromise.

Blaine - all I can say is wow, that really turned out nice! I recovered mine a couple of years ago and looked at doing it in a contrasting color like you did, but in the end I chickened out. Now that I see how nice yours turned out I wish I had done the two tone. After I media blasted and powder coated the frame I brought it to a local shop for the reupholster job (I know my limitations).

Here is a picture of how it turned out, it’s ok but it looks a little blah compared to yours...again good job.

That looks good In the future I will do mine also .
What I did do , was sunk my finger nails into it .
And was able to streatch out all the wrinkles. And tuck the extra under the trailing edge with a puddy knife . If you can relate
The vynal did move and remain stuck .. At least for now

I also like the two tone look of yours

Since the dash folk are here, I'll issue a warning about commercial dash covers, especially ShadePro..

Our Meridian (Journey) uses precisely measured pleated curtains, and the thickness of the ShadePro covers totally screw up the curtains, kinking them and jamming them into, the upper track.. I.e.- they simply don't work.

ShadePro also uses 'inserts' around the various vents which the main cover rests on, effectively doubling the thickness somewhere around 1/2". If there were normal curtainsmthis would be a good option, but not with the pleated ones.

Jeff I think ours is about the same. Good call on the thickness i never really thought about that but it is pretty close so that would be an issue if the mat was very thick.

Blaine ... how is that das section held in place? I have a similar one in my Destination and am trying to remove it to access the rear view monitor. I have the def grills removed but the dash section won't budge ... thanks!

To get into the dash area there are screws holding the back the tan colored plastic box in place. There was i think 4 and one black small one on the side one they were out it kinda was snapped in place had to gently rock it out.

Once it was off i could access about anything in the dash area i have never had that off before this.

Blaine,
The new dash looks good. Our 2004 Journey is beginning to need the same thing. Did you remove the part of the dash that you covered? If so,how? I also like the job that you did on the front TV. Any tips on that too?
Thanks,
Indiana Journey

Well i need to write this up but you remove all the plastic trim pieces from this point you can use a thin flexible scraper and utility knife to trim and scraper to tuck it in everywhere.

I originally thought i might put some spray adhesive to lock it down but i looked under the old and is was a foam like stuff and vinyl together i decided to just clean it and put it over the old one and see if it stay in place. If it does not i will put some adhesive on it.
