Knock sensor

I know this is an old subject but I have the 8.1 engine. 2004 Itasca Suncruiser. Went off for the weekend and returning home the check engine light came on. Checked it and sure enough it was the knock sensor #1 circuit low input. I had this one replace in northern Ca. and it has not been driven since. It is now in central Fl. not sure of the milage to Fl. What makes them go bad? Looked under the coach to make sure it was the one put in and it is new and shiny.

Hi Liz,

I had knock sensor (driver side) setting Check Engine light multiple times with no apparent effect on performance. When I installed the new one, discovered that the exhaust gasket "donut" broken causing hot gases and noise aimed directly at the sensor only about 4" away.

Suggestion to get a lot more responses, have the moderator move this thread to the Workhorse section .... there's been a lot of discussion on knock sensors over there on the 8.1L engine.

Good luck,
Bill

Thank you. Read the post and did a lot of research. It turned out to be bad gas. The coach has been sitting for a year and the gas was low octane. Put 3 bottles of octane boost , drove out half a tank to camp ground. Spent a week there and then filled up with premium plus on the way home. Cleared codes and drove for about 30 miles and no check engine light. Did not know bad gas would do that.
