We have a 39W (still at the dealer being repaired - more on that later). We are having an electrician install a 50 amp outlet. The power cord supplied with the MH won't reach - only question is by how much. I call Winnie help desk and their records do not show the length of the power cords.
Does anyone on this forum know the length of the 50amp cord used on Journeys in 2004?
Would love to know so we can determine how much is needed to bridge the gap. My "off the top guess" is 25 ft.
Thanks
Don

Don,
The parts catalog says it has a 36' 50 amp 4 wire cord. I would guess you net out about 32' out the door.

Thanks Donavon, that is interesting as it sure doesn't seem that long. If it is 36 I might get buy with 15 ft. But the 30 ft is only $15 more so I'll go for the longer one - provided my son can get to CW in Michigan in time.
Those 50 amp extensions sure are EXPENSIVE.
Don

Roger on the EXPENSIVE. It won't be long before Walmart has them in stock.
(based on my knowledge of the import business, my landed cost (fob mpls,mn) in lots of 10,000 units would be about 8.00 per cord - much less if the order quantity was significant). Walmart's cost will be about 5.00/cord and they'll sell them for 39.95.
geofkaye, I bought a 150' reel of the exterior electical cord you speak of.
Very nice stuff and really handy around the warehouse. I got it at Home Depot.
My wife covered the reel with fabric and put a pine wood circle top on it. Great coffee table at the mountain cabin.

Guys, are we talking the same quality?
My EXPENSIVE comment applies to this
CW HD likely cabtire
Are your $1.25 per foot plus connectors for this quality level or regular every day #6?

Don, I've looked at the Camping World cord set and it is extremely good quality. I wonder why our sponsor RVUpgrades.com doesn't handle extension cord?
The wire from Home Depot is good quality and will last me for the rest of my life but when I make up my own stuff it isn't water resistant, et. I only use it inside.
I don't think you should buy anything too good now because you'll probably be getting that 45' Newell with 100 amp service. On second thought, get the real good cord at CW and I'll buy it from you next year.

Donavon, I called our local Home Depot today - was informed they have never had any exterior 6/4 like the type I need.
Tim, I'm a cheapskate too. I'm going to get a 50 male/ 30 female dog bone, connect my 30 amp extension, at the other end use my 30 male/50 female dog bone and make do with 30 amps (which I gather does run the air conditioning adequately) until I get by CW in the fall to buy the 30 ft 50 amp extension.

Whoops, Donavon, maybe we could go 50/50 on the Newell. I'll use it in the winter in Florida and you can use it in the summer. Sound good?
Hmm. That would only be $750k each, (well, for me over $900k Cdn) - aw shucks, more than I want to spend if I value my life/wife.

.SO chord?.....4-#6 's in rubber and they never had it?....well how come I have a 500 ft roll in the garage?....I'm too old and too fat to run so I didn't steal it......you really could use NM if you want to-it isn't as flexable but we use it on every job site now because of cost.......it's 95cents a foot. Osha or state doesn't whine so far....I have a 200 amp 4-#2's about 52 foot if you were close we could make a deal of some sort.....but I can't even lift it....why don't you try an electrical supply and see if they have any shorts or drops you can tie together....for weatherproof wrap in EDPM rubber and tie ends with black electrical tape....I wrap it 3 times with a 3 by 3 foot peice of EDPM...a friend "borrowed" a high line cover from the local utility company it's 6 foot long and is good for 1750 amps....geofkaye

Don,
Why don't you have your electrician run the 50 amp service out to the motorhome? That way you won't have to coil and uncoil two cords everytime you go camping.

Because it would have to be in conduit, have to go right over a septic field lift tank and some other lines, I decided to put the outlet in our pool shed where we had 125 amp service (original owner had an electric pool heater years ago). Thus, he was able to use internal not external components which are much cheaper. The MH pad is about 43 feet from the outlet. I have a 30 ft 30 amp extension (external high quality)and will use a 50 male to 30 female adapter to connect since all we really want to be able to do is run full air when we have visitors, along with the fridge. This will do the job. I'll pick up the 30 ft 50 amp when we are in the US in the fall.
geofkaye - if you think Home Depot here has it - try them at 519-757-3534.
