Level With Toad Attached - F53 Gas Chassis?

If a RV is fairly level with no need for blocks, is it safe to level the RV while the toad is still attached. I had a RV shop tell me that I shouldn't do it. But I'd like to stay hooked up for overnighters. I have the Roadmaster Sterling All-Terrain tow bar.

I can’t believe that the leveling would create a problem for the setup.

We stay hooked up for a quick overnighter as well.
Most of the time, if it's just over night, we will air level only and not use the jacks.

We did it many times with our F53. The stresses on all of those components are much greater bouncing down the road. And the jack system certainly doesn't care.

Lakejumper,
First off, I'd seriously consider dumping any and all advice from that particular RV shop. They are clueless, as you can read from your other answers here. The components of the tow bar, attachment points, pivots and all that, are DESIGNED to flex and or pivot. You could raise that coach of yours so all six tires and wheels are off the ground (HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED) and, all the toad is going to do is creep forward while you do that. There will be no additional weight at any point because you're leveling the coach with the toad attached.

And, your spot doesn't have to be all that level to start out with either. We've been camping, traveling and all that for decades with many coaches and toads, in a zillion campsites and RV park spots that were UN LEVEL to start with and, kept our toads hooked up 'cause we only stayed over night and, have never, ever had any issues doing it that way.

Now, that's for about, 99.9999% of the time. Are there times when it MIGHT be advisable, sure. But, those times are seriously rare. You'll be just fine.

Thanks to all! I thought that it shouldn't be an issue and that's why I inquired here on the forum. You're right about the roads placing more torque and movement on the components than auto leveling the RV does. Although, the tow bar is an "all terrain" style, it still binds at times and I didn't want to place undue stress on it.

I have done it many a time without any problem. I would think that as long as you don't raise the rear tires off the ground you should be OK.

Lakejumper-

We have left the toad attached when leveling the coach. We make sure that the toad parking brake is off and the transmission is in neutral.

I have a Roadmaster tow bar. At home I park my MH on a slope. When I get ready for a trip I hook up my car to the MH. Before I level or retract the Jack's I make sure my car is in neutral and the parking brake is off.

When I raise our lower the MH the car will be moved forward or backward and I don't want the transmission to be overloaded.

Safe travels. JD
