Oh, I'm glad you asked this, Marty!
A salesman told us that the one on our model (Meridian) is suppose to light up but we haven't yet seen it light or have found any switches that make it light up.
I'll be interested to hear if others have theirs light up.
Thanks.

I just looked at the 03 Adventurer 33V wiring diagrams and could see nothing to indicate it would light up. I'm no electrician, so I could be wrong, but I always though the handle was made of clear plastic just to make it look pretty.

I asked the same question when I bought mine and was told that only certain models have lighted handles. Mostly diesels. I guess it must be part of a package. Someone on the site said it wouldn't be to hard to convert it. That would be a nice project. Maybe if someone has done it they can share with us.

LIGHTED HANDLE. I took my handle off. Both chrome ends are glued on and would not come apart. From the hollow inside I drilled out a hole at the base of the chrome head. I took apart a yellow motorcycle side marker LED light. I placed the LED as close to the clear plastic as I could get it. I then drilled a hole at the backside of the handle and led my wire inside my switch(s) box, which is opposite the outside handle by the passenger seat. I wired this light into the porch light switch so it goes on and off with the porch light.
Since the motorcycle marker lights come 2 in a pack I wired the other in to light up my step with the porch and handle lights.
I know the Monaco handle is not glued and Monaco makes a round based light for $10 that sits on top of the plastic handle and lights up well. Unfortunately I could not get the chrome head off my plastic handle or I would have used the Monaco clear light.
Just a good therapy wiring project that had good results for under $20.

This is going to be an interesting thread just based on the replys so far. Answer to the original question based on Winny phone call:
"The Meridians handles do not light up even though they have the clear plastic handles. The same goes for the Adventurers."
That is what he said. I do know a friend of mine has a Vectra (04) and his lights up. I am going to be very interested in everyones input on this subject. Thanks for posting the question.

Our Horizon handle lights up when we use the remote key fob or the keypad to open the door. The outside "porch" light and the co-pilot map light activates also.
Welcome to the forum

My Journey has an unlighted assist handle, part #132442-02-01A. This handle can be found on page 177 of the Winnebago Catalog (downloadable in PDF format from Winnebago). At the same location are listed several other assist handles. Some are lighted and some are not. They are for both Itasca and Winnebago. The list includes a lighted handle with clear plastic that is the same length as the stock handle. I don't know if the mounts are the same. Maybe it would work for you.
