Loose cabinet knobs

So many times I'll open a cabinet door and find that the knob is loose, so I get my screwdriver and tighten it. Then I go to a different cabinet door and find that knob loose. I might as well carry a screw driver with me all day! Is there a product that would keep the knobs tight? A glue? What is best? Thanks, Joe

Many times we will put a dab of silicone on the threads to keep the screw from vibrating loose yet it still allows for removal.

Concur with Loctite, it can be found at any hardware store, wal-mart etc.

If your knobs are plastic, then the silicone will work and you probabally have it on hand. I just "assumed" they were metal. There are several types of locktite here , that is if my link works, that will work on just about any surface.

Silicone will allow you to change your knobs at a later date. I've never had much luck with getting Loctite to turn loose.

I love loctite. You want to give yourself a treat get a bottle of Loctite 404 (little yellow bottle). Don't fall over from the price. I think it is $25 for two onces. Keep it in the refrigerator. That being said in this application I would dip the screw in Gorilla wood glue. Then retighten it.

Loctite 222 to be specific(purple in color). It costs about $6.00 for a 6 ml tube. It's a low strength product meant for machine screws less than 1/4" in diameter. There are several other Loctite products that will work but may be permanent. The more common 242 (light blue in color) is meant for nuts and bolts 1/4" and larger. When used on smaller bolts the bolts may break before the Loctite comes loose.

Stay away from the 271 high strength product (red in color). Just a note of warning. There are several other Loctite products that are purple in color. Make sure you get the 222. There is also a product number 22221 that is purple but it is a high strength product.
