We bought a 2007 Sightseer 29R last fall. I made it home with the MH just in time to put it under cover for the winter. We just pulled the cover and I was checking the roof seal at the top drip rail and found a section that is loose.

If you look at the pictures you can see that a section has pulled loose at a seam in the middle of the coach. I don't see any screws or other types of mechanical attachment and it seems that this metal rail may be "glued" to the sidewall somehow. Can anyone tell me the best way to get this back together?

Also, I am curious as to how you all have applied the tape in this area. It looks like the tape will have to run down into the metal gutter and then up onto the fiberglass roof. I can't see how you could clean out the caulk and get any tape into the small chanel the roof material slips into. Have I got this right?

Thanks in advance
Mike

Hi Mike,

I think you have a warranty clam! This kind of misalignment is for sure a factory defect! As a result, it should be covered by your original warranty. Call Winnebago.

Mike - This happened to my rig. Although my rig's a bit longer, I would think the roof structure is the same. On mine, the roof rail on one side was pulled away when the slide came out, and it tore the roof. It turned out that the line mechanic had his gun torgue too tight and had broken most of the screw heads off. I can't be sure if your situation is the same, because I can't see the cross-section of the rail end, and I see no evidence of screw holes, but I think these rails should be screwed into a backing plate behind the wall. Then the one-piece roof "tucks" over the crown and into the top channel or groove in the railtop on each side, being primarily held in place by pressure. Then when both sides of the roof are tucked in, a bead of adhesive caulk is run down both edges to seal it. I would be all over Winnebago on this! And I would fight to get it done right. I hope some of this might help, and good luck!
