Loss of Air - Basement Air Conditioner Ducts

I own a 2005 Adventurer 33V on a 2004 W20 chassis. I purchased the coach in March 2006 new. We have put about 7500 miles on it and love it!! On a recent trip in 93-05 degree weather I thought the A/C wasn't cooling as it should. After getting home I crawled under the rear of the coach and found a huge volume of cold air coming from the A/C ducting just after the turn upwards from the unit. The aluminum tape put on by Winnebago had come loose at a duct joint and we really were loseing a large amount of air. Have rewrapped the duct with new tape. No air loss now. We haven't been out on the road after the fix to claim victory yet, but am sure it will be better. Just thought I'd post this as it might be of help to someone else. Happy Trails !!

It is a fairly common problem reported by many on the forum. Some use the good quality foil duct tape and some have even used Eternabond tape.

Not a problem. It's always good to remind folks of potential problems. I have my rig in getting a new basement A/C put in and I asked them to check the ducts. They said they automatically do that on any rigs brought in for service of any sort. Shows there are a few problems out there, huh?

Just a thought is it possible to place screws thru duct work to keep vents from pulling apart before taping.

No screws will not work and actually damage the ductboard over time as they vibrate loose. The AC installers use a white goopy looking stuff to seal the connections, then overlap the ductboard and use metal tape on them. I would use a dielectric cleaner or a sprsy brake cleaner on a rag to wipe down the ductboard before you use tape on it.

Glad to get this info. It seems the more of Winnebago's goofs we can repair ourselves the better off we are. My air cools fairly well but in 90-95 degees weather it won't keep the inside temp below 78 degrees.

I had the same problem on my '06 vectra. I ordered a roll of 6" eternabond tape and it worked like a charm. I first tried the standard duct tape but after driving a few hundred miles it started to fall off. Use a stick and get as high up as you can reach on the seam and hope the same doesn't happen on the top of the duct. If so it's a trip to the factory!
