Lost Alcoa Hubs on my Rims

My rear dual Alcoa aluminum rims (22-1/2 inch) on my 2005 Winnebago Adevnturer had Alcoa Labeled 2-1/2 inch Nuts which held on the polished aluminum axle hub covers (or large cups).

Both the nuts (1 rh thread and 1 lh thread) somehow disappeared and hence the hubs left home too.

Possibly someone borrowed them?

Where can I find replacements at a reasonable cost?

After 10 years the hub nuts on our rig were pretty badly corroded so I replaced them while I was at Camp Freightliner in Gaffney. The cost wasn't too bad and they have the Freightliner logo. I don't know for sure but they might have the stainless steel covers also. If you don't have a Freightliner chassis you might try a trucker's chrome shop or something similar.

i paid $100. for one cap and nut from freightliner. i think it was 65 for the cap and 35 for the nut.

The Freightliner help desk is 800-385-4357. Have the last 6 digits of your VIN# handy and they can look up exact replacement parts. They might have to transfer you to the parts or sales dept.

I too lost a rear one. The nut was loose I never thought to check this hub nut and quick as you blink it was gone somewhere. Called Lictsinn Motors and got a replacement with a new nut. Cost something like over $70.00 if I remember right. Thought this was expensive, but oh well what can you do. The only change is that the little decal thing that says "Alcoa" is not on the new nut for the hub.

Checked with Lictsinn Motors in Forest City, IA armed with the numbers I received from Winnebago (as they were out of stock) and Lictsinn quoted me something like $247.....WOW what a hit for 1 hub.

Ebay came to the rescue again and sure enough there was someone selling a kit of 2 polished stainless hubs with the nuts and bracket for $67.95

Looking further someone had one on the Ebay auction and I scored the package (on Sunday evening) for $24.95 plus $15 shipping.....I am now a happy camper and am purchasing the $67.95 set for a spare.....Both (4 hubs) for less than Lictsinn quoted for 1 hub.......Do you think maybe Winnebago gave me the wrong numbers, HMMMM? or was I getting ripped off at Lictsinn.....Pays to research everything.

Maybe you had the wrong numbers. I just rechecked what I paid from Lictsinn, it was just over $78 on Sept 2009. This for a rear dual center hub (22.5 rim/tire) chrome w/ chrome nut to replace my lost hub. Looks like a very large cup and the nut is like 2 1/2 inches with out the logo. Everything came as ordered and worked first time on install. Maybe if you have not already ordered from Ebay check again with Lictsinn. Just a thought as I can not think a jump of over double in price should happen so quickly.

Thanks for the info....I too thought this was strange....The lady at the Winnebago parts counter was having trouble finding the numbers so maybe she got them mixed up with something else....You don't have the chance to see a microfiche of the part so could have been anything....Maybe the entire rim possibly?

If I remember right, I called the parts folks at Lictsinn. Never did call Winnebago. I described my problem, talked about it and then ordered it. If it was the wrong piece I could ship it back. They were very helpful. Turned out that the part was correct the first time. Kind of tough to return an order to someone on ebay.

In this case the seller has a 7 day return policy so if they are not correct I will immediately send them back and call Lichtsinn. Actually I am going to the Winnebago Rally in July and will stop at Lichtsinn anyway to see what the part was that Winnebago gave me.

When I went to Lichtsinn they just took the part number I was given at Winnebago and looked up the price so I am partially to blame as I didn't ask to see what the part looked like which would have solved the mystery.

Hey is there some sort of wrench to tighten up the center 2-1/2" hub nut? Any sort of met al wrench will damage the chrome nut.

Freightliner - Gaffney now sells a plastic hub nut wrench. I got one when I was at Camp Freightliner earlier this spring, cost about $12 if I remember right. The wrench works on both sides, even if one side is left hand and the other side right hand threads. Just kidding.
