Your 2008 Itasca most likely has the same installation as my 2008 Destination.
2 inches is the max that you should allow to be out of sync. Your manual should tell you how to sync the motors. However, here is my short version. When you bring the slide in and one end is still sticking you there are a few things you can do. First, try running it out about 8-10 inches and then bring it back in. This does not always work. Second way is to manually (electronic manually) bring the side in that is sticking out. Between the in and out buttons on the control unit there is a small hole. I break the head off of a toothpick, and with the engine running (or key turned on) insert the toothpick in the hole and hold it for approximately 6 seconds. The green and red light will start blinking. The "Out button" pulls in the side to the rear, and the "In button" pulls in the side to the front in. This method will pull the slide in all the way. At this point you can just walk away, or run the slide lock. The slide lock is for the top portion of the slide and has no affect on the bottom side. (I'm assuming your problem is the same as mine from time to time and it is the bottom that does not come in all the way.) If you use the in/out manual button mode, the slide will sync itself and should work the next time you extend and retract.
Also, check your manual for the "braking" switch. On mine there is a rubber boot on the end of the electric motor. For my coach, the brake is locked when it is in the "counter clockwise" direction. This is the normal position unless you have to use a wrench to bring the slide in (two wrenches simultaneously) Sometimes, and I cannot understand why, it may be rough roads that vibrates that toggle switch and if the slide brake is not set it will cause the slide to "walk" going out or in.
Good luck.
p.s., i'm interested in the type of bed you have, king or queen, and the rail system the bed rides on.
