I have a bit of a problem with my thermostat and the temp inside the coach. Today, it was about 7o degrees out. Since the dampers on the dash air weren't working, I was running the house air. First, when driving, it seems the temperature on the hall goes way up. It was 82 back there. Naturally, since the thermostat was set at 79 degrees, it was running continually. When it reached about 69 up front, we pulled over and set the thermostat to 81. It helped some, but not a lot.
1. Is the temperature supposed to get that warm in the middle of the coach? Is this because of missing insulation from the engine?
2. Has anyone moved the temperature sensor of the thermostat to the front of the coach? Is there such a thing as a wireless thermostat that could be moved from place to place?
Any thoughts?

Obviously much has changed with these coaches since mine was built but whenever we have run the basement AC while moving, the temp inside has remained pretty even. If anything, it will be warmer up front due to the windshield. Perhaps some outside air or heat from the engine area is getting pulled into the area behind your One Place panel and fooling the thermostat, especially if you only have this problem when moving.
I do know that our True Air T-stat consistently reads 3 - 4 degrees higher than any other location in the coach. I have always thought that was due to some heat from the other electronics in the One Place panel.

Any suggestions on how to go about investigating heat from the engine?

Get an IR temperature reader (Radio Shack may still have one) and take measurements along the floors and walls. You will get a good indication of where the heat is coming from and can investigate from there. Typically, slides have no insulation on the walls or floors, or if they do, it is minimal.
