When we pulled into the Sam's Club parking lot, there was a Winnebago Journey parked at the fuel station. Since I needed gas, too, I stopped there first. We visited a bit while my wife took care of feeding our car. By the time she had finished fueling our car, they had invited us in for a look! They were very proud of their Journey, but also offered the answers to questions that I hadn't even asked yet.

As we left, I noticed something. The exhaust looks like it would go right onto the left front tire of the toad. Given the large amounts of plastic on modern vehicles these days, that doesn't look like it would be a good thing. On the other hand, that has to be one of the most turbulent areas around the coach.

What say ye, o experts? Am I concerned about nothing, or could this be an issue?

It's not a big deal for heat issues. There is plenty of turbulence (at speed) to diffuse the heat aspect of the exhaust. And even when stopped at a light, there is enough swirl from the exhaust to keep the heat down.

For particulate and oil and other stuff though, that might show up on the toad given its position in the exhaust slip stream.

Overall, in my experience, not an issue at all.

Great info here. We just purchased our '04 Horizon with the 330 CAT in it and I too was wondering about exhaust issues in relation to the toad. I thought there should be sufficient clearance and turbulence in between the exhaust tip and crucial points on the toad. This is kind of re-assuring.
Thanks
Scott

I have a TPMS with temp indicator on my coach and toad ...I also check tires with an infrared thermometer at stops enroute. I find that the right front tire on my toad (just behind the diesel exhaust) tends to be around 15 degrees warmer than the left front, but not high enough to worry about. I have about 45k towed miles on this combination. I haven't noticed any more diesel spots etc on that side ...
