I guess I need to start thinking about new tires for my 2006 Journey. I only have about 16000 miles on the rig but the sidewalls of my Michelin XRV tires are showing signs of stress cracking. I'm thinking about trying Toyo tires as a replacement, only because the Michelins seem to have given up kinda early. I know the tires should be replaced every 5 to 7 years so I guess I'm about due. Does anybody have any pros or cons on the Toyo versus the Michelins?

I put Toyo's on my 05 last year when I bought it. The Michelins that were on it had sidewall cracking. I have had no problems with the Toyos.

My local Motorhome Tire dealer says they recommend Toyo Tires for replacements of the XRV's. (See my recent tire post in the Workhorse Chassis forum). We might wait until after next Summer to replace our XRV's, and most likely will go with the Toyos. They are about $100/tire cheaper than the XRV's, with the same warrantee and tire wear warrantee. If you do a search, most over the road truckers swear by the Toyos.

Ronnie, what size and model Toyo did you put on your Journey?
Thanks, Sammie

I put M154s on my Tradewinds and have put on 11K trouble free miles this year. Previously I had Michelins. I feel the Toyos ride better and saved me about $1000.

What is the manufacture date on your tires? I noticed your coach is an 06.
Michelin RV tires should have a 5 year warr against cracking. Have them looked at by a real Michelin dealer.

You are welcome Sammie. The dealer said that they were the closest size to the Michelins.

Also a good idea okgc. I'm just concerned that the tires are so close to the 5 year date that the prorate would be next to nothing. Still a good idea and worth a visit to the Michelin dealer.
Thanks, Sammie

i have an 06 meridian with 255/80R22.5 they are doing the same thing, i have 16,000mi on the coach the tread is still deep, but the side walls are cracking. i found a set of 6 goodrich tires 275/80.22.5 today. they are a little bigger, but will fit my wheels. 2,600.00 turn key installation. amazing much cheaper than michelin and goodyear. i haven't checked toyo, but hearsay is they are good tires. i'm going with b f goodrich.

Sammie - be sure to talk to Michelin. I bought my Journey in July '04 and started seeing premature cracking in late '07. Went to Michelin dealer 12/07 and Michelin paid 90% on the tires and I paid the labor. Total cost to me was $800 for 6 new XRVs mounted and balanced. The dates on all the tires were less than a month old.
I think I read recently that guys were having trouble finding 255/80x22.5 XRVs with recent DOT dates. Might be worth accepting tires that have been in the warehouse for a while for a price like that...

We have had a trucking Company for 20 years. We were always Mich tire people. Reason? They recap better than any tire. I bought a tractor with new Toyo and they ran longer than we ever had Mich run. I'll buy Toyo to put on my MH when I need tires, guaranteed!!!!! And no I am not a Toyo dealer!LOL

Love my TOYO tires out here in the NW. I like their casings and have not felt their was an issue with a harder tire up (most of my driving is in hills and tar snakes). Tacks just fine, and I enjoy Les Scwhabb price and warranty. HOWEVER...check your location and majority of RV'ing regions you are traveling to going to and make sure that they carry WHATEVER brand you get in a reasonable time (I must admit, that I did not do that as I am ok with taking a couple of extra days for the tire to come in if worse comes to worse, Plus I have a spare). I have to say I have owned a Moving company and have also like Michelin as well. It really all depends on the tire and it specs, casing, air, driving styles, road conditions...but I feel that whatever TOYO and MICHELIN you get I believe you would be satisfied from their authorized retailers!
I believe the toyo has the size you are looking for
