Sunday morning and we are cooking breakfast. Go to use the microwave and it starts poping and smells like something is burning. Only on for about a minute before we realized what was going on. Food still cold.

Is our microwave totally broken or can it be fixed? Any idea on where we get a replacement?
We have a 2002 Journey.

Thanks for any help.

There was no metal in the micro. I was going to cook some bacon on a plastic microwave cooker. We even tried with just a cup of water for 30 seconds. Just a lot of smoke in the micro.

thanks for the response. Any other ideas?

If you have an Apolloe, there have been numerous reports on the Apollo half/time failing. Lot's of people who have had that happen and not under warranty will replace it with a different brand.

You might want to contact these people. They are reportedly very good and reasonable on Microwave repairs.

Here is another info link also.

Have you contacted Sharp. Last Nov/07, our Sharp Micro/Convection oven started to run 59 seconds and then shutoff. I contacted Sharp and after some explanation, they agreed to pick up the repair cost if I would take the unit to an authorized service cent.

If you have an opaque square panel inside on the right side of the microwave, you might try carefully raising the four metal tabs that hold it in place, removing it and cleaning it. It's delicate so be careful with it when you replace it and bend the tabs back down.

Somehow liquid had got behind the panel on ours and caused symptoms that sound like yours.

If you do wind up replacing it - don't waste your $$ on a GE Advantium. It was a $600 upgrade in our Vectra (we didn't order it, it was there), and I'd much rather have the Sharp.

My $0.02.
