Midland Air Dryer Purge Valve

On my 02 Journey I had the air dryer cannisters replaced per maintenance schedule...The dryer had to be removed to service as it is located too close to the differental to remove the filters.
After it was replaced I was looking at te Midland web site on the drawing of air dryer it showed had a black short tube or pipe coming out the bottom of the purge valve...When I looked at mine, the bottom of the air dryer was flat without anything extending out and I could look up directly into the purge valve assembly...Is this normal or did the tech forget to replace something that plugs into the purge hole?......thanks RKL.
