New owner of a 2005 30 ft MinnieWinnie on a Ford E-450 V10. Need to tow a 4000 lb car and choices are 1)tow dolly or 2)trans lube pump. Any input would be helpful.

What is your rig's tow rating? A tow dolly well weigh 600-700 pounds.

Welcome to the iRV2 forum. You can expect to get lots of great information and advice on your rv wants and needs.

I am always learnig about new things. What is a trans lube pump? I flat tow my saturn with a front wheel drive auto and all I need to do is remove the ignition fuses and put the car in neutral. I can tow up to 65mph without damage to the tranny. I have only seen a couple of people use the tow dolly.

Good luck and tell us more about your rig and "toad"

Cheers

Hi Robert

We towed with a dolly and it is a BIG pain in the b*tt to say the least.

On the info you've provided it looks like you'd be close to maxxed out for your hitch and that's not a good idea. I think in the long run you will be happier not having to mess with a dolly and example would be if you had to unhook in a gas station or some other tight spot. That would mean unloading the car off the dolly, getting the dolly hooked to the car , moving the car with dolly and moving the motorhome then rehooking and reloading all.

We found loading the car on the dolly a rather exciting experience when it was wet since the car tires and the dolly pads were slippery. More thrills than we wanted.

Travel safe whatever your choice is.
