Monthly Auto-Start & Generator Test

I have added a simple test to my monthly exercising of the ONON Generator. While attached to shore power and the generator set in the AUTO mode, I simply go outside and trip the breaker. You hear the systems die just like when the Starship Enterprise powers down. You will also see a red blinkng light at the master gen set panel and a green light on the front console. Depending on your load, the generator fires and all system are a "go" again. I let the generator run, under load, for two hours and then shut it off and return to shore power. This monthly test gives me more peace of mind when we leave our dog during day trips in hot weather. I am sure you have experienced power failure during peak usage. Auto Start is a fantastic. Just make sure it is set to on and that your air conditioners are on and your pets will thank you....

I think that is a great idea to simulate a power outage. We do the same thing in commercial buildings to test our transfer switches and generator start and connect times. Then there are times that mother nature does it for us !

Auto generator start is on our list of must haves for our next coach, although I have thought about installing the Onan EC-30..

Just looked through your blog, great pictures and descriptions.

Very good post I love my auto start and it does give me peace of mind for our dog when we are away from the coach. I will start testing as you do.
