mud flap/rock guards
We have a 2016 Vista LX 35F. We are looking for advise on which rear mud flap to install to protect toad and reduce rear cap dirt. Has anyone install one? Recommendations? Thanks.

Try a search or two.
I just removed one based on reports that most cause more damage than they prevent.
Recommend mud flaps behind rear wheels instead... which I already have.
Mine was mounted fairly low to ground... considered raising it but decided to try w/o it as first step.
Hsve you towed w/o one yet

Thank you for your advice . Yes, towing on a southeast trip currently without. The body of the Vista sits up very high in the rear allowing a direct hit from anything off the rear wheels. Individual sounds good if I can find a good mounting spot.

I had the Newmar installed, full width mud flap/guard on my last rig. I did have to adjust it higher off the ground and cut a notch for the hitch drop receiver. It worked well and my toad stayed clean with minimal paint chips. My present Winnebago did not come with the full width mud guard. Both rigs have/had the mud flaps behind the rear wheels.
I find on dry roads with the Winnebago, my tow car stays relatively clean but on wet roads the front of the toad is filthy. And it's more than dirt. It seems like a road grime mess. This winter I plan to add a full width flap. Probably something like the Rock Solid Ultra Guard that can be purchased on Amazon.

We have the 'plastic strings' directly behind the tag tires, the full width mud flap hanging right in front of the hitch, AND put a protect-a-tow screen mounted under our tow bar back to the jeep.
Before we got the protect-a-tow the Jeeps flat fender portion would have small rocks, etc... sitting there when we got to our destination !

A full width "mud guard" can be helpful in keeping some of the road grime off the toad. However it MUST be mounted so that it clears the road at least 6-8" If it is too low it will sweep rocks & debris off the road surface into the front of the toad. Best protection is a properly mounted full width flap AND underskirt type shield. If the underskirt won't work in your situation (as in mine) something like the Blue Ox Kargard or Roadmaster Guardian will work well. I have the Kargard and altered/bent the towers so that it is angled about 12 degrees so rocks are deflected downward rather than up and into the back of the coach. I suspect the softer material of the Guardian would be less likely to bounce rocks toward the coach than the very hard material of the Kargard.

Our Journey came with mud flaps on each wheel and the full width flap in the rear. We have towed our C-Max 20,000+ miles with this setup. When the road is dry no problem but when wet the car is covered with a black tar like mess. We haven't had paint damage or windshield pitting.
Recently, the full width flap was damaged and I had to remove it. Since then we haven't driven in the rain so can't comment on the difference yet but I am most anxious to find out. We moved to SC from CA 2 years ago. Most of the towing has been here in SC. But the few times we drove in rain in CA I did not see the film. The road spray here seems much heavier and engulfing.

Strange you should mention S.C. That black tar like mess you describe it the road grime I mentioned. And the worst of it was towing on I-95 in South Carolina. If you got it with the full width flap, maybe I'd be wasting time, effort and $, putting one on.

We only use a Protect-A-Tow.
Never say a need to a mud flap after that.

And coming back to add to Tom's point, as stated, we already HAD a nice pretty 'flap' across the back, but got the protect-a-tow because the front of the jeep toad was 'collecting' small rocks and sand
and actually glad we usually tow a toad behind, otherwise the chrome flap is blinding going down the road to those behind us !

I took our full rear flap off and cut it into mud flaps and fabricated frames from it’s bracket to hang them on just behind the duals. We also use the protect-a-tow. Over 10k miles and no marks on the toad.
