Mud Flap/Splash Guard - 09 Destination

Took delivery on an 09 Destination 37G. Was surprised that it did not have a Mud Guard or Splash Guard going across the back. Just about every Winnebago that I see has one. Have not crawled under it yet to see if there are any mounting points. No bumper, so can't hang one off that. My jeeps going to get awful dirty.

I would not worry about it. If your rig has mud flaps behind the rear wheels, I am not convinced the extra full-length flap at the rear of the coach does much of anything. Any vehicle pulled behind a motorhome will get nasty even if you have the ultra guard. My first coach had no rear rubber gizmo and my current coach does....I notice no difference.

I installed my "mud flap" by hanging it off of the hitch.

No pictures but like Wayne, I was able to attach angle iron to my hitch and mounted the splash guard to it.

I think all Winnebago/Itasca DP MHs come with the rear rock guard. I have noticed that the 2010 models do not have the model name on the rock guard -- standard generic rock guard on all models. Probably a cost cutting measure by Winnebago, but I thought the model name across the rear added a nice feature.

Thanks for the info - Just the site I was looking for - Asked Parts Dept about the rock guard and they told me that they could not get them from Winnebago - No "mud flaps" behing the rear wheels either, but that looks like an "easy fix."

Probably hang the rock guard off the trailer hitch like others have done.

Our 2008 Itasca Latitude did not come with mud flaps or a rear guard across the back. We had assumed it was a standard item. Apparently not. Joe

As others have indicated, you might get some benefit from actual mud flaps immediately behind the tires, but most of what I have seen on the full width flaps indicate they cause more damage than they prevent, especially if they run close to the road surface ...mine definitely does not keep the toad from getting dirty or dinged!

I will probably manufacturer a mud flap to go behind the rear wheels. There is a piece of square tubing behind each one that I can attach a piece of angle (iron or aluminum) to and then hang a rubber flap.
The full width rock/mud guard might be a different story as I would need to keep it well away from the exhaust, which when doing a "regen" (07 EPA emissions thing), the temperatures of the exhaust can reach from 800 to 1500 degrees (according to the owner's manual). Don't want to start a fire in my new motorhome.

Concerning the full width mudflap (that is what it is called on the spec sheets) I believe Winnebago has done away with the type that has a metal name plate. They seem to have gone to a type that will bend in the middle horizontally. I can tell you from personal experience that the new type will be better as the older type constantly gets bent and scratched.
For anyone who wants to add mud guards behind the rear wheels almost any auto parts store carries mud guards for trucks of all sizes. You should be able to find a size that fits your needs.

Lost my full width stainless steel rock guard to an alligator on I-40. Cost to replace- approx. $500. Mud flaps - approx $18ea. Opted for the flaps and I swear the engine runs cooler and no difference to toad.

Do the rear wheels have to be taken off to properly install the mud flaps? Joe

From what I see on mine, no the rear wheels do not need to be removed to install mud flaps directly behind them. You will (would) need to drill holes in the 1" (looks like) box (square) tubing that is behind the wheels and mount the mud flap to that. I will probably use some steel angle iron. Put one side against the box tubing and use the other portion to mount the mud flap. Will take some pictures when I do this. Probably not this weekend - got a few other projects.
