Has anyone attempted to install the mudflap reinforcement as part of the warranty campaign? The local Winnebago dealer is mailing me the part so I can install it myself. I was wondering how difficult it is to install.

Sorry, haven't seen the mod, but how difficult could it be? At the most you'll probably have to drill a couple of holes through the rubber flap. Probably the toughest part will be unmounting and remounting the mud flap (it's HEAVY)...

Thanks, I assumed it would be fairly easy. That's why I asked the dealer to send the part to me so I would not have to take my MH in for warranty service. I had hoped someone had some insight into this so I would know what to expect in terms of tools, etc. since my MH is stored at a storage lot.

Had my mudflap reinforced at a new dealership,mostly to see the shop and their work since my selling dealer went out of business and was visiting in the town anyway. Certainly would not make a special point of making an appointment if they will send you the pieces. Consists of 4 little plates (one on each side of the flap at the hanger points) and 4 bolts and nuts. Would require drilling 4 holes in the flap (one on each side of the original hanger holes). It took them less than 30 minutes to do it and I'm not sure they were actually working all this time. Don"t think you would have to completely remove the flap from under your coach, just drop one side at a time, do it, raise back in place, then do the other side.The plates may measure around 2 1/2 to 3 inches long by 3/4 to one inch wide. You can hold the whole kit in the palm of your hand. Hope this helps anyone wanting to do it themselves.

Rex - funny you should mention mudflaps... we just got back from four days out and I was looking the coach over and noticed I now am missing a mudflap.

Your post mentions mudflaps(plural). Are you referring to the smaller mudflaps behind each set of rear wheels? If so, you need to ensure that your mudflap does not get under the leveling jack when leveling the coach. If it does it will rip it off. I lost one that way. The replacement rubber is fairly inexpensive, around $10 as I recall.

My post is referring to the large mudflap that extends across the rear of the motor home. The attachment is poor and Winnie has provided a reinforcement plate. If you have lost this mudflap it is very expensive, like $450. If you lost it before Winnie included you in the field service campaign they might replace it for you. Good luck.

Can anyone tell me what models this mudflap issue involves? Do owners get something in the mail from Winnebago or does the dealer notify you?

I hit a big alligator in Kansas that put a nice bow in mine. I removed it and when it was laid on the ground both ends were 10-12 inches off the ground. I didn't notice any damage to the attaching points. I had it beat back straight and reattached with the same fasteners.

When I dump my air, the mudflap still has an inch of clearance from the ground.

Well Rex ... as a matter of fact I was referring to the rear wheel flaps (two each.) I have not received any notification from Winnie about the large mud flap.

I guess I'll have to find a replacement wheel flap somewhere.

Thanks Tom for the list, that clears it up. My 2005 Journey was shipped in May 05 so it evidently has the modified mudflap already. That's probably why it stood up to the alligator impact so well and why it doesn't squat on it when the air is dumped.

You can get the replacement mudflap from any Winnie dealer. I ordered mine from:

Be sure to measure the rubber flap. I had to order a larger one and cut about 2 inches off before installing it.
