Hey guys n gals,

My name is Joe and I just registered after an extensive GOOGLE search about the Wire Prep feature on some Winnie models.

I have an '07 Sightseer 35J and I have two questions.
1) Is the rubber antenna at the middle/front of the coach for CB or the AM/FM radio???
2) WHERE is that dang wire??????

The rubber ducky antenna on the front is the dash radio. Early CB preps had a sorry metal antenna, later ones left the antenna off. A good one to use would be a Firesrick NGP (no ground plane).

The wires normally are in a plastic bag to the left of the driver's left foot.

I have an 09 Sightseer, and the wire you mentioned is for the CB power, not for an antenna.

As Paul said, the wires are labeled and located underneath the dash to the left of your left foot.

Some, not all, models did not have a CB Prep. My MH is one year newer than yours. All I have are two rubber duckies, one front and one in the rear. Both are for the AM/FM radios. I read the same item that you have about the CB Prep, called Winnebago, and they confirmed that I did not have a CB antenna. Under my das are the power wires for connecting anything, and some RCA Audio plugs for connecting anything. No CB antenna wire

Since I am only interested in communications with those vehicles around me, I purchased a Through-The Glass" mount CB antenna and mounted it on the window above the sliding window. It works fine.

Good luck

You most likely do not have an antenna. Easy to fix. Pull the drivers mirror off. Drill a 1/2" hole in the top of the bracket between the mirror and the coach. Get a 4' stick with a non-groundplane wire. Run the wire through the hole from the mirror and the coach interior. Do not cut the wire, just criss-cross it under the dash. Mine works fine. Good luck.

I saved a CB from a truck I got from s-i-l. It's a fairly good Cobra unit. He had a fender-mounted antenna with a cylindrical doo-hickey about half-way up. Can I use this, mounted on the driver's side wall just below the roof?

Although I'm an engineer, it's a mechanical degree, so i'm completely clueless when it comes to RF stuff, particularly antenna theory.

Thanks all for the help,

Porchdog, when you say a 4' stick, is that a conduit to run the wire down or does that mean something else?

What I meant by "4' stick" was a Firestick, K40 Superflex or any other fiberglass antenna you like. Keeping it low keeps it out of trees but if you can get the top portion above any metal and the antenna is top loaded you will experience best performance.
