Hello Folks,
I just bought a 2003 Winnebago Adventurer 38G. I would like to swap out the VHS/VCR for a combo DVD player. Looking into the cabinet, the power cord for the VCR disappears into a small hole in a plate atop the switching box. I have no idea where it goes from there. Rather than ripping all of the wrong things apart, I am hoping that one of you can tell me what I actually should do. Thanks.....

Take a look at the TV/VCR Wiring Installation diagram for your coach. It may be able to answer all of your questions.

Probably goes behind TV to cabinet on other side or to one side or the other of the cabinet the VCR is in. Does it have the inverter? Mine is in the upper left side ot the cabinet in the very back.

I must be missing something;; We have an Ultimate Advantage; And I just took the stock VHS Unit Unpluged it Slid,it out, slid the new Combo unit In, And it works super. There is only One Wire needed between the Combo unit and the TV. set. Some will say you need the Red, White, Blue, Black, Or UBS cable, You Don't. Yuor combo Unit is about 3.3" high it fits right in. Life is good.

On my coach the inverter, Winegard switch box and VCR are all in the right hand cabinet over dash. You power cord more than likely goes in to the plug on the back of inverter.

Thanks to all. And thanks for the diagram Chris. Unfortunately the VCR is not plugged into the recepticle at the top rear of the cabinet. It drops into the circular hole in the plate on top of the switching unit and disappears. It does not show up on the other side. I guess I'm just going to have to start pulling things apart.

Dan & Sharon, that sounds like my issue, but how do you access that plug behind the inverter?

If you look behind the TV cabinet there is an opening. You can't see it unless you basically get on the dash or use a mirror. You will find lots of wires and that connect all those items. Mine had the electrical plug go to the passenger side cabinet to receptical behind the inverter & switch center

Mine has a vinyl cover over the switch box and inverter, also attached to it is the radio/tv sound switch. Removing this cover allows better access to the wires.

I had a Suncruiser with the power cord going through a hole in the back of the cabinet. I had a simple solution. It's connected that way because most likely there is a small inverter that runs the VCR and TV. Make sure it's off and disconnect power to the motor home. Cut the power cord close to the VCR and connect a female 120 volt socket on the end of the wire. Plug the DVD player into it.
It worked for me.

If the VCR is a Zenith (Made by LG) you might finding a nice "Round" file for it (Electronics recycler) Do this with all 120vac OFF (not plugged in, Inverter if any off, Generator if any off)
Cut the cord off at the VCR and replace the VCR with an outlet end from any Hardware.
Plug in to the newly minted "Extension cord"
And don't worry about where the other end is.
If the VCR is a Panasonic.. Well, I'd not do that to a Panasonic.
