New to us 2002 WB Ultimate Freedom - finally ready to travel.
We recently purchased a 2002 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom. After getting it home we found a number of problems that needed to be repaired. Good news is that I think we have them all fixed, at least for now. Many thanks to those on this forum who posted their repairs- made finding answers to our problems possible. Thanks folks.
Our summary of the past few weeks.
The most serious problem was the front suspension. At 70,000 miles the ball joints needed replacing as well as the tie rod ends and steering stabilizer. Took it to JOSAM's in Orlando for what we at first thought was only a front end alignment. This was our big repair bill.
The basement A/C didn't work- had a AC Tech go over it with me and we found that it needed a board and a relay. Ordered them, put them in myself, and we now have cold air.
Heard an air leak in the back. Turned out to be a leveling valve. Replaced it and no more air leak.
Dash air only blew cold from the defroster vents. One vacuum pump and all is good.
Had some broken drawer slide mounts and a broken lock on a sliding pantry. Lichtsinn's had them and were happy to sell them to me.
Second most costly expense was the side view mirrors. A previous owner had clipped them- most likely more than once, and the driver's side vibrated like crazy as well as had a stick on for the wide angle. I kept reading that these are almost unobtainable. Lichtsinns again, had them in stock.
The most perplexing issue was the HWH leveling system and slides. The dealer was putting in a new hydraulic pump and line for the back slide. When we picked it up, the slides all worked fine but they said they still had an issue with the control box. They agreed to send me a new one that they were having HWH build. (They did send it within a week).
However, the jacks still didn't work. My tech son-in-law was able to jumper the relay and get the cycle to start. But they wouldn't retract.
The local RV repair shop couldn't even get them to dump the air bags-and were stumped. Took it home and started trouble shooting with the HWH guides.
Long story short- yesterday I noticed that some of the connections between the relays didn't look like what I saw in the schematics. Whoever did the pump for the room must have guessed about what might work as they somehow got the room slides to work. That is when they 'decided" that the control box had to be the culprit.
Took the diagram under the coach with me and rewired the system. Went inside and pushed the start button and ... success.
Now we can go enjoy our Ultimate Freedom. It is really one nice coach.
We leave for our first long trip in less than a week and are excited about it.
Ok, there are still some upgrades to complete. We will do those when we get home.
