Hi All
I am a total newbie looking to buy my first diesel pusher, I am looking on line at a 2002 Journey 32T DSO (hope I got that right) with 21,000 miles, cat 330 Allison 6spd tru-air etc. looks great in the pics. (I believe I can negotiate the asking price down from $72,000 to $58,000.) I cant look personally since I am 1400mls from the coaches location.
Any thoughts on this model?, I would appreciate any and all feedback.
Thank you in advance.
Scorp

Welcome to the forum ...

Just a couple of suggestions

1) There are lots of used motorhomes on the market now ... study the floor plan and storage to make sure it fits your expected lifestyle when you use it ... cooking, sleeping, travel, closets, storage space for your toys when you travel, etc.

2) find out the date of manufacture of the tires ... a 2002 rig probably has the original tires ... they would need to be replaced immediately ... that is in the $2500 to $3000 range

We bought a 2002 32T new in 2002. It has a Cummings 275 HP and a Allison 5 speed. It now has 114,000 miles and has been a great performer for us. Been from Alaska to Key West and New Brunswick to Mexico. Very dependable and for the most part trouble free. Had it painted and going to keep it another 10 years.

Good luck finding your coach:

Thank you for the advice and info, I was wondering if there was anyone using this forum who owns this particular model and could give me some pointers based on experience with it.
Thank you again.

Thanks Charlie, your post came in as I was typing mine.
Is there anything you would advise me to look at particularly, other than the more obvious things?.

I've made many upgrades:2000 watt inverter,32" flat screen,Amp hour meter, freezer in basement, paint, etc. The only replacements I HAD to make was the original inverter was junk, replaced the injector pump (due to low sulfer fuel ???) and a head gasket. Other than that we use it approximately 4-5 months a year and all appliances and equipment is original. It was and still is a reliable coach.

PS: I now use a additive (Lucas) for added lubrication of fuel pumps.

Charlie,
I'm curious. I have the same floor plan, only a 2004. Did you change out any of the interior of your coach yet, such as replacing the sofa with a Euro lounge chair or the dinette for a table? P.S. I love my 32T too.

Bonnie:

The only furniture I replaced was the original couch. I would have liked to see the president on Winnebago try to get a good nights sleep on the original sofa. After the grandkids get older I think we may change out some of the furniture with a recliner or chairs. I did build an removeable extention to the width of the booth to accomadate a larger double air mattress.

Hello Scorp,

We have the 32T, 2006, with the 5.9 Cummins. It has been very reliable and all systems are still functioning after 30K miles. The only repair, except for normal servicing, was a recent rebuild of the alternator to replace the bearings. For some unknown reason they got very noisy during a two month-long trip in Mexico. Needless to say, I'm very glad it lasted until we got home. FWIW, access to the motor for work is difficult.

We have a 2001 with 94k miles and love the rig. Very well built.
