Norcold ref drain hose?

I just discoverd after 5.5 years a drain hose in the back of my norcold model N8421M refg, at the vent, a small white dain hose loose into a small white pan. It had a plug in the end and I removed the plug and water ran out so I left the plug out. what is this hose and should I put the plug back in? thanks

If you examine the plug it should have some small holes in it--they may be plugged up in your case. I believe that the reason for the plug is to keep out the bugs while still allowing the water to drain out.

the hose drains the water from the tray under your cooling fins. the little pan it goes to should be next to the heater and evaporates the water. if the tray under the cooling fins has never overflowed or froze up the plug must not be clogged so I would put it back in.

I think the plug must be kept in to avoid warm air from traveling back up into the refer. The plug has a small hole to allow the collected water to drain.

Warm air, bugs, whatever ...it IS a small avenue directly into the food box! I check my plug every time I defrost the freezer ...4 times a year normally ...to be sure the plug is not cloggd with dust/dirt, AND to be sure the drain tray across the back of the inside of the refer isn't frozen over.
