I've been driving a '97 Adventurer with the GM chassis and 454 Vortec engine for 5 years. I've never had a problem with cruise control until the last trip, which followed a stay of a couple months at an RV park.
I asked around and was told to look for a fuse...but can't find one marked "Cruise Control". I tested all the fuses I could find under the panel, and they were all good.
Are there other fuses located somewhere else?
Should I be looking for a mechanic, or are there other things to check?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

make sure brake light switch is adjusted properly at pedal.

the brake pedal must return fully to the up and stowed position every time it is released for the cruise control to operate. if it does not, you have to fix this problem before adjusting the switch.
if your brake light switch is similar to mine, it can be accessed by lifting the dash and looking down to the right of the steering wheel. the switch is a dual switch, one set of contacts for the brake lights and another set for the cruise control. the switch has 2 plugs connectors on it. remove both connectors and use an ohm meter to check the adjustment of the brake light portion of the switch. then adjust the cruise portion by turning the switch in or out in the threaded mounting. the switch must be adjusted so that the brake contact is not made when the pedal is in its stowed position, but the cruise portion contacts are made with the pedal in the stowed position.
i hope this makes sense to you.
others on this forum surmise that the plastic switch wears where it makes contact with the brake pedal, so you have to thread the switch toward the brake pedal.
if i had not read about this in the forum, i never would have figured it out. i bought a new switch which turned out to be the wrong one.

In my '99 GM chassis owners manual, page 4-60, the fuse marked "I-3" protects the cruise control circuits. All of the other fuses are labeled with specific names.

Make sure the wiring harness that follows the steering column to the steering wheel is properly plugged in. The plug is about half way up the steering column.
