My coach has an Onan Emerald Plus 5kW generator. Its taking longer to start than I'd like, and the exhaust smells pretty bad. I'm thinking the carb needs a good cleaning and rebuild. I suspect that the carb is a pretty simple one (compared to the automotive ones that I've screwed up) and was thinking of tackling the job myself.

The concern that I have is how to get things back to where the generator operates normally...IE, how do I get it back to 120V @ 60Hz after I rebuild the carb? How do I make sure it stays there under load?

So, now that I've "talked" to much...does anyone have a service manual or know where I can get one? The Model of gen is a 5BGE, with the spec letter being "P".

As far back as 2002 they did not sell carb rebuild kits for my 1996 Onan - only a complete carb. I took mine off and soaked it in cleaner but had to use the old gasket - or I might have made a new one- I don't recall.

The RPM is what sets the hertz and if you are careful you might not screw that up. The governor sets the RPM. A voltage regulator controls the output voltage.
