I have a 2007 Winnie Outlook with a 4000 watt ONAN MicroQuiet Generator. It uses about 10 ounces of oil every 8 hours. I contacted the ONAN service center and they said they were not sure if that is excessive. Seems a bit much to me. Any thoughts?

I have a 7500W generator and it will consume oil between changes. The first indication that it definitely needs oil is if it does not start. Checking the oil periodically is a routine task and you should try to stay on top of it.

I just read where too much oil in the crankcase will cause excessive oil consumption. When checking your oil level make sure you screw the dipstick all the way down.

30W Onan oil I understand will help control consumption during summer months. You can use any good oil if it has the proper ratings.

There's not a lot of buzz on Google about oil consumption in quantity per hour of run time.

crw1957 - that is very excessive consumption - first, make sure you check the oil level correctly - when you stop the generator , remove the dipstick/cap, let the level stabilize, (it will rise a little bit) then install the oil level/cap and remove and then take your reading - if it still consuming a lot of oil then there may be a mechanical problem with it - as driver has said too much oil will cause excessive oil consumption.
