I finally got around to getting the pics uploaded to my web site, so here is the story.

While camping near Escondido, CA in March I was awaken about 4AM by a noise which sounded like an AM radio station tuned slightly off station. It was coming from under the refer area so thought it might be the convertor, but it wasn't. Then thought it was the outside radio, maybe turning itself on. Went outside, pushed the power button & radio lit up. Turned it off but noise continued, and it was coming from the outside speakers. Took the drawer out under the refer & could see water dripping slowly down onto the radio. Unplugged the radio, sound went off, went back to bed.

Spent the better part of the next day taking out the radio, taking it apart to dry & cleaning up the circuit board. I was very pleasantly surprised when I put it back in it worked just fine.

Now for the detective part, where did the water come from. The refer was working fine, not dripping anywhere. I thought maybe it came in from the top vent, as we had some rain several days just prior in San Diego. There was a bit of water below the coils in the back, along a ledge attached to the refer. I think the water seeped down thru areas of the ledge where it meets the refer. I caulked those areas.

We have gone thru several other times of heavy rains & I have never noticed any water behind the refer since.

MY conclusion: I think the water came from the defrost tray behind the refer, bounced out as we traveled. San Diego was quite humid during our stay, so water did not have a chance to evaporate as normally occurs.

This has been hard to describe, thanks for putting up with it.

We have a drawer under our refrigerator. I noticed that things were getting damp under there on occasion ... not really wet just damp ...

1) I cut a piece of cardboard to just fit the opening above the drawer...

2)I covered it with plastic and taped the plastic securely to the cardboard

3) I then used a Rube Goldberg system to fasten the plastic covered cardboard at a slight angle so that the moisture that accumulates on top of the cardboard either evaporates or drains onto the floor underneath the refrigerator

Nothing has gotten damp in the drawer since I put the protection over the top of it ...

I think that perhaps you should fabricate some sort of protective moisture shield for your radio
