Possible purchase of Winnebago Vectra

We are brand new to this forum and need advice ASAP. We now have a fifth wheel and are considering buying a 2007 Winnebago Vectra 40FD. The price is great and it's from a reputable dealer with a 30 day warranty. It has a 400hp Cummins engine. Any guess as to what gas mileage we might get? That's a lot of horses to feed, but the dealer says it will not be less than most get because it will be running at a lower RPM. It seems like a deal we can't pass up, but it's a little scary to part with that much money, so any advice anyone can give me on the model, engine, etc. would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

You will probably get between 8 and 10mpg, but I don't think rpms have any thing to do with it.

We get 7-1/2 while towing on out 2005 horizon. Virtually the same coach.

7 to 7 1/2 will probably be the tops, regardless of speed, etc. We average 7 with our 2008 Vectra and a 425 Cummins.

Just like every other question about fuel mileage the answer is directly related to how much pressure you apply to the accelerator. Speed is the greatest determination of fuel mileage. Given a steady state speed (62) I find that my coach is most affected by wind. It does not seem to care if I am towing or carrying up to the weight limit. I have gotten 10+ driving from Wyoming to Iowa (downhill with the wind) and 6.5 going into a stiff breeze (10+). My coach has a 425 Cummins and after 28,000 miles I am averaging 8+.

I have a 330 cummins and I have found that if I drive 65 mph I get about 8.3 consistently. Any slower and I get between 7 and 8.

A little off topic, but doesn't that model have Basement AC ?. There has been some discussion about difficulty of gettin AC repairs / parts no longer made ?

Thank you everyone for the information. This will be our first motor home and we are beyond excited. We ended up purchasing a used Tiffin bus and will be picking it up in a day or so and making the maiden voyage next week!
