Propane gauge & sender

The problem is two wires for the remote gauge are disconnected from the tank gauge & sender on my 2004 Winnebago Journey. The wires were attached to a plastic piece that appears to be clipped onto the propnae tank dial gauge. Can I pop the plastic cover off the dial gauge? It doesn't look like it to me. This is a manchester 37 gallon (31 full) tank but I can not read the print on the gauge.

I've searched but don't find the answer I need to help me. I've tried to add a photo but don't seem to be able to accomplilsh the task.

I also had the wires break off my gauge. The wires go to your all in one place LP remote readout in the hall. The dial gauge still works but you have to read it at the tank.

The gauge just slips off. There is a magnet on the back that picks up the lp float reading from the tank.

In January I found an exact replacement gauge on eBay for $9.95. I just searched eBay and did not locate any. The seller was maggiemoo101. Description was NEW ROCHESTER TWINSITE RV LP GAUGE FOR MANCHESTER TANKS.

They sell the guages at a Winne ot Itasca dealers. There are two different kinds. The one pictured looks like mine. The price is $53.00 ...... it is a ripoff price for sure. You can't fix the wires, that gray plastic piece that the wires run in to is solid.

I bought it, installed it and my LP guage inside the coach still shows FULL with the tank showing 3/4 full.

I am waiting to use more LP to see if it registers lower on the inside panel .

The guage snaps over the lip on the LP tank. An easy way to remove it is get a flat head screwdriver slide the edge behind the guage and push, it will pop right off. Found that out by accident. Be carefull you can break the plastic lip clips if you try and force it off any other way.

I could not find the gauges on EBay or discount places on the web and ended up ordering them from Winnebago parts. Not inexpensive but available.

My guage works but is inaccurate. I took a black marker and put a line on the guage (tank unit) after filling it after I saw how much it took and marked the spot as to how much was left in the tank. After filling the tank a few times you now have a very accurate idea of how much is left in the tank. My dear wife is always saying we need more propane because of that stupid guage when I know we have at least 15 gallons.

I have one of the same problems mentioned above. Gauge on the tank says 1/4, inside it says full . I checked for voltage at the tank there is none. I unplugged tank gauge and inside it still says full. Any ideas where to start? It is a 2000 journey 36L.

RJ,

The sensor is a 0-90 ohm resistive element so the voltage levels could be very low. Check it this way
1) Disconnect the sensor
2) Using a multimeter set to ohms verify you measure between 0 and 90 ohms across the 2 sensor wires. If you have LP in the tank removing the sensor should change the value.
3) If the sensor is higher than 90 ohms or open then it is probably bad.
4) If the sensor is in it's normal range then you probably have a broken wire between the sensor and the remote display.

Ok Heres what I tried. Across the two terminals at the gauge I got 9 ohms, with tank gauge showing 1/4. When I would push button in the coach I would get 12 volts that would drop back to 8 volts across the two wires. While holding the button down in the coach and then jump across the 2 wires all lights on the console for the lp gas go out. Your thoughts?

We tried a different meter and are NOT getting any reading across the terminals at the tank sending unit. Sooooo I'm guessing thats the culprit. How difficult is it change and do you need to go back to Winnebago?
