Propane left on in storage

Made a newbie mistake this trip. Made it home yesterday after a 2 month stay down south. We stored the motorhome down there because we are planning another couple of months, down there to get away from the cold. Starting in about a month. Today I realized I did not turn off the propane. We did leave the propane on the whole time we were down there, just all use is shut off now. So do I have anything to worry about? It is a 9 hour trip back down there one way. 2003 Winnebago Brave

It should be fine but if you stored it in a yard maybe call and ask them to go turn it off.

Never turned mine off in storage, I lived in an gas house, it was never off.

I would only be concerned if it were stored indoors in a sealed building.

Not likely to be any issue. Few of us turn off natural gas at home when we leave, as pointed out. With propane I've found if a 20 lb cylinder is left on over the winter it will likely be empty in the spring. Over one month you might have some loss but not enough to care about.

I store both RVs at home and I typically turn off the propane at the tank/cylinder, but sometimes I forget. If I'm preping for a cold weather departure I'll attach an external tank to fire up the furnace for a few days so as not to consume the onboard propane supply.

Just make sure propane cylinders are not stored in a closed space, like your storage bays. A standard propane compartment must be open at the bottom for venting.

The only time in 14 years my propane has been turned off was when the tank was being filled.

Don't worry, as long as you didn't leave anything on that uses it. I leave mine on all the time. As long as you haven't been aware of any leaks before you should be fine. The next time you go to use it do as I do. I light the high heat stove burner and let it burn for a bit then start to light of the other things to verify normal operation.

The only time I turn my propane off at the tank is when I get it filled.

Off for safety sake. I used to leave mine on all the time. In 2017 I drove to my LP supplier, had the 40G tank filled, returned home and parked in the garage. Next morning I opened the garage door to get my pickup out, when I opened the walk-in door I smelled the LP odor. Looked at the MH tank gauge and it said 1/2 instead of full. I began spraying LP connections after I was sure no LP appliance was the source. I sprayed the fill valve cap an saw bubbles, I removed the cap and sprayed the valve and got a big bunch of bubbles.
Close inspection with a flashlight revealed the valve had seated at an angle. After talking with my LP supplier I opened the big door and let the garage air out for an hour, then drove the MH outside and opened the tank "spit valve" and allowed the tank to slowly empty(took 8 hours) and wind to disperse the vapor.( I live in the country)

Then my supplier installed a new RV tank valve at his business location next day.



Bottom line, things happen unexpectedly.

Yes, lp off. I've had 2 regulators leaking and lost1/2 a tank of lp last time.

My propane has been turned off only when I am filling the tank (propane) and some tunnels and ferries have propane shut-off requirements.

Ok, I feel better. 8 rvs, 30 years never turned my valve off. Apparently, I am in good company.
