Propane Water Heater Problems

I attempted to start the propane water heater on our Itasca Horizon and got nothing. When I turn the switch on, the green "Heater On" switch lights and I get no clicking sound to indicate it is lighting. Also, the "Pilot Out" light remains off.

I have turned the switch off and on with various intervals of off time. Still nothing. Any ideas? This is an Atwood hot water heater.

Yes, the propane switch is on and the propane furnace works.

I know nothing about your unit. But, is it possible you have a dual fuel unit and while you are plugged in to electric it automaticly selects the electric element? Otherwise, what you say about the control panel is telling me the unit is lit and running. Can you get hot water, after about 1/2 hour?

I think it's Atwoods that have a fusible link. the link is encased in a clear tube about 38" diameter. It's on the front of the heater. the purpose of this link is to shut the heater down in the event of flames coming out of the burner tube and potentially causing a fire. On a temporary basis you could jump across the terminals for the fusible link with the door open.
The back fireing of flames could be caused by spider webs, etc. in the burner tube.

Today, I found the problem. I did have spark ignition, just could not hear it inside. No propane to burner. After several calls to Atwood, I found I had 13 volts to the circuit board and only 9 volts coming out to the ECO. Minimum of 10.5 volts needed to activate propane valve. Diagnosis: Defective circuit board. I will be ordering a new one today.

Circuit board pricing varied widely from $217 at Winnie dealer to Camping World at $179. I ordered online for $124 at American RV Company in California.

I received the new circuit board today. It installed easily and now my propane hot water heater works.

"Flaming" is going out of your way to make someone else's life miserable in print on any RV Board and mean it to be derogatory.

The humor is that all though everyone needs a water heater one might find it "humorous" if one refers to a need to heat "hot" water. I can't tell you how many times I was chopped at the knees for saying hot water heater.
