I tow a 2016 Ford Focus hatchback and love it. Very easy and light to tow. It is small enough to go anywhere in any town and gets good gas mileage. I put a Blue Ox base plate with all Blue Ox items, simply because they are the best towing products IMHO. Here is a video that will help you get started in the right direction. Best of luck.

I chose a Saturn myself, but I did a long blog write up of the process that shows some equipment used. With suggestions on saving money and links to sources.

Towing suggestions and links to resources...

We are towing a Focus. Blue Ox Alpha tow bar. Went with the Brake Buddy rather than Patriot cuz it was a bit easier to use. It is very easy to move around.
You will need a battery disconnect installed on Focus. Required for automatic.
We are happy with the towing setup.

We tow a Ford Focus - very light, no issues. Blue ox & patriot brake. DH did all the setup, I cooked him dinner & served him beer :-)

We don't use a battery disconnect - just pop off wire/S from the battery each time. Been towing this same toad for about 30-40k miles so far.

I use the ready brake for its simplicity. I also added a battery disconnect switch myself which was very easy.
