Anyone who has been to Quartzite? We are thinking about going and have many questions.

Where do you park your RV?

If you buy something you want to have installed, how do you get your RV in?

1: We park off of Cholla Road just west of town. There is also The long term visitor area's where you pay a small fee, but you do have a dump station and water. Then there are about 50 RV parks in and near Quartzsite.
2: There are some shops set up on the show site that some of the companys like Hendersons have set up. I believe Rich's RV still has a permanent shop in town. You try to get there VERY early before the major traffic starts. Depending on what you need to have done, some of the suppliers will come to your site to install their products.

Where to park?

Anywhere the sunset is reasonable, unless you need to reposition for your solar panels.

There are literally 10's of thousands of RV's within a 15 mile radius of Q. We were off of LaPosa Road last year, and suspect that's where we'll be again. I'm told the dust is much less than in other areas.

If you don't mind boondocking, defineatly go to one of the LTVA's. We went in '03 and had a BLAST! Best trip ever for us! Would love to go back.

That being said, as a first timer I was glad to be with our "Group" which was loosely members of our camping club. We had a big circle and campfires and potlucks almost every night. I think this really made the experience for us.

If you are in the LTVA's and it's a dry year... and you have an able toad, take the washes to town. Once the show is on traffic is almost unbearable.

I think we stayed in the Laposa LTVA, which was just off the main road to town to the west. There was water and dump across the road. Our group had a portable freshwater tank and a small pump, so part of our daily ritual was to go get water for those who needed it.

If you are unsure, you might want to throw out a tread here in the General forum and start an IRV2 group to join up with in QZ.

Be prepared to clean sand up for a while! I highly suggest taking along patio rugs, and removing your shoes outside, and knocking them off before going in.

I wish I could be going this year! We had an awesome time.

In Quartzite we stay at the Holiday Palms RV Park (800-635-5372). This park is clean and a very short walk to the main RV event. In fact over-flow parking for the RV event backs up in the wash next to this RV Park. This is a no pet park.

It is also a very short walk to the many flee markets in the town. It is next to impossible to drive anywhere during the Quartzite week. So why not stay in the middle of the activity for your first visit.

As far as parking your brand new beautiful coach in the desert, thousands of Rvs are out there very happy. I'm still cleaning dirt and sand from last weekend camping in the dirt at Calico Ghost Town in Yermo CA. It will be a long time, very long time before I do that again.

Thank you for the info and suggestions. Parking the coach in a sand box without hook ups doesn't sound appealing to me or the wife.

Quartzite will be the start of a 4 or 5 week trip for us. Leaving our blind dog in a kennel for that long is out of the question. We need to find a day care for him in the area or a campground that accepts pets.

You can find a lot of parking that is not 'in a sand box'. Its pretty solid like in areas down in La Posa South.

But its an outdoor experience. It can be very cold at night and also sometimes very windy coupled with cold.

I have been there several times and it is a good but sometimes different experience!!!!

Quite a few posts say they are still cleaning sand from their coach. It is good to know it is not all that way. How long should we plan on staying?

I spent my first winter in Quartzsite area. We boondocked using a small Honda generator. We stayed in about 6 different spots at Quartzsite and within 60 miles. We were there 4 1/2 months.
We would dump and get fresh water for 5to10 bucks a time.

We are planning on going back again this winter. We ride atv's in the desert.

As mentioned earlier, the areas North of town don't have near the dirt and dust as in the South. We had very very little dirt in the coach, even though we were parked in it. We have way more cleanup when we're at the beach just wiping the salt air off the interior.
