Just doing a Walk Around Inspection this morning and notice one of the clamps that hold the Muffler in place is seperated and one half is hanging in the breeze.
Anyone had to replace the Clamp/Brackett that the muffler hangs on??
Is it welded to the frame or bolted to a support member off the frame?

If you are refering to the hanging bracket about one foot from the end of the tail pipe I have had that one break twice. The first time it happened I dug around in my shop and used a piece of scrap aluminum and fashioned a new one. When that one faileed I realized that the problem was in the strenth of the bracket metal. So, I went to an auto parts store and found one that used thicker metal (probably meant for a pickup) and then I cut it to size. I had to drill new holes in the metal from which the hanger is attached to the coach. My new bracket is probably three times as robust as the original.
Personally, I think that it is beyond ridiculous to pay almost $90 for a simple exhaust hanger, especially when I don't think the replacement will last any more than the original did.

Not to burst anyones Balloon but we are seriously looking for some good old fashioned baling wire.
Coat hanger wire may not take the heat from the muffler well enough to last but perhaps a heavy guage wire will work!

I agree, for a couple pieces of one by 1/4 mild steel and a bolt or two, they are asking a high price, IMHO.

Capt Chet:

Mine was that way when I got it. I took the broken hanger to my local NAPA store and they gave me a nice heavy duty replacement for about $8.00 I believe. That was 3 years ago and it is still holding up just fine.
